Obituary for Adele Memmo (DiPaolo)

Adele Memmo, formerly of Wyomissing, passed away on December 16, 2020, in West Hartford CT where she had been living near her son and family.

Her husband, Alfredo Memmo, passed away on January 23, 1970.

Born in Lanciano, Italy, she was a daughter of the late Donato and Anna (DiNunzio) DiPaolo. After getting married to Alfredo, they immigrated to the United States, and truly achieved the American Dream.

Adele worked at the Reading Hospital for 23 years retiring in 2002. Previously she worked at Talbott Knitting mills. When her husband passed away in 1970, her life revolved around raising her children, attending church and working. She devoted her life to raising her three young children, who were 5, 7 and 9 years old at the time. Despite being a single mother, she worked full time. She attributed her inner strength and fortitude to her devotion to her Church. Holy Rosary Church was always an integral part of her life.

She enjoyed her senior years with the West Lawn Sr. Group, travleing on numerous day and weekend trips. She also enjoyed the wellness plan with aerobics at the YMCA and LA Fitness; most days she walked 1 to 2 miles. Adele was a longtime member of Victor Emmanuel II Society Ladies Auxiliary. Her favorite travels were to see her sisters and brothers in Italy, whom she missed dearly.

Adele was very proud of her three children; for the people they have become both personally and professionally. She will be fondly remembered by her children: Anna Memmo, a registered nurse in Philadelphia; Antonio Memmo, an investment banker in Manhattan, NY; and Dr. Pietro Memmo, an orthopedic physician residing in Connecticut. She is most proud of her four grandchildren: Matteo, Iliana, Julian and Luca Memmo. She is survived by a brother and two sisters, who continue to live in Lanciano, Italy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated privately at the convenience of the family at Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church, where Adele was a longtime member. Entombment will be at Gethsemane Mausoleum. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is honored to assist Adele's family. Condolences may be expressed at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
