Obituary for Andrew Horst Wolfe

Andrew Horst Wolfe, 63, passed away suddenly on December 26, 2022, at St. Joseph Hospital. Born on July 2, 1959, at the Reading Hospital, he was a son of Joanne Leyda Wolfe (Dayton, OH) and the late Philip D. Wolfe (Temple, PA).

Andy was a graduate of the Hill School in Pottstown, PA. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Richmond, VA. At college, he was a proud member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity, rifle team, and golf club. After graduation, Andy remained in VA for 8 years working in men’s apparel retail sales before returning to PA, yet he always remained a true southern gentleman.

Andrew was a successful businessman as co-owner and President of Wolfe Dye & Bleach Works until his retirement in 2014. As a fourth-generation owner of a 120-year-old family business, he guided the company for 24 years through an incredibly challenging textile environment. Andy was instrumental in managing the day-to-day operations allowing his brother, Mark, to seek new clients. Andrew was also an investor in several upstart businesses helping them to become profitable.

He was a member of the Berkshire Country Club, Heidelberg Country Club, and Maidencreek Fish and Game Club. Andy was an avid golfer with two holes-in-one and numerous tournament wins. Over the years, he spent much time hunting, trap shooting, and fishing. He traveled with his family and friends to Africa, Europe, and the Caribbean. Andy enjoyed working outdoors and was especially proud of his farm property. Above all, Andy loved the holidays and always placed family first. He was a true friend to many and enjoyed hosting his friends at his cousin’s family beach house in Stone Harbor, NJ and traveling throughout the United States with his golf buddies.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his brother, Mark N. Wolfe, husband of Mimi Wolfe (Sinking Spring, PA) and Susan M. Wolfe, wife of Jean Dupreez (Monterey, CA); plus five nieces and nephews: Kevin, Taylor, Warren, and Lucy Wolfe, and Luc Dupreez. He also leaves behind his cousins: Charlie, Mike, and Alison Wolfe; and Ed, Beth, and Earl Leyda.

Andy was the rock of the family. He was kind and loving with a great sense of humor. To honor Andy as he would have preferred, a celebration of life will be held in Spring 2023. Andy was a generous philanthropist to many organizations and donations in his memory can be made to the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, or the American Lung Association. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading is overseeing initial arrangements and online condolences may be recorded at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
