Obituary for Anthony J. Kodz
Anthony J. Kodz, 77, passed away on Tuesday August 1, 2023 with his wife Mary Lou (Hayowyk) Kodz by his side. They shared 54 years together in marriage.
Born on March 15, 1946 in France, he was the son of the late Alex and Vera (Zaisawa) Kodz. Tony moved to the US with his parents and younger sister, Mary (Kodz) Gozel in 1955. They settled in Passaic, New Jersey. It was in high school that he met Mary Lou and they were married 5 years later.
Tony went to work for UPS and settled the family in Freehold, New Jersey where they had twins. The family traveled often to Toronto, Washington DC, Disney and Miami with family and friends. As his kids grew older, Tony took them on motorcycle trips all across the country.
An avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast, Tony moved the family to Reading in 1998. He turned his passion into a family business when he purchased Classic Harley-Davidson. He was joined by his kids, Kevin and Caryn, to run the business for the past 25 years. Tony loved working with family and was happy when his son-in-law, Alan Friedlander, daughter-in-law, Amanda (Giffen) Kodz and grandson, Brandon Kodz all joined the business.
In addition to Mary Lou, Caryn, Alan, Kevin, Amanda and Brandon, Tony leaves behind three granddaughters, Ellie Friedlander, Emma Friedlander, and Maria Kodz. His spirit will also live on in his granddaughter-in-law, Stephanie Procak, as well as his great grandkids, Penelope Procak and Benjamin Kodz.
Tony’s memory will be honored on Saturday August 19th at the Reading Fightin Phils game. The family has asked for donations to go to Baseballtown Charities in lieu of flowers.
