Obituary for Barbara A. Harris

Barbara A. (Arnold) Harris, 95, of Berks County, passed away January 5, 2021, at Berks Heim.

She was the widow of Walter R. Benner and Henry Harris.

Born in Reading, she was a daughter of the late Roland Arnold and Florence (Blew) Neetz.

She was a 1943 graduate of Muhlenberg High School.

Taking great pride in providing for her family, Barbara worked till she was 92. She, along with husband Henry Harris, owned Hillside Diner, Mt. Penn and Dutch Restaurant in the Fairground Square Market; she worked as a medical secretary for Dr. William McKinney and Dr. Chandrakant Patadia; she was a teacher at Muhlenberg Vo-Tech and a dental assistant for Dr. Atul Niak, retiring in 2017.

Barbara was a member of Fun and Friends Dance Club and Smoothies Dance Club where she served as secretary-treasurer for many years. She also enjoyed traveling, ballroom dancing, shopping trips to New York and flowers, especially orchids.

She was a kind and compassionate woman with a heart of gold. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Barbara is survived by three children: R. Scott Benner, Robeson Township, Dawn R., wife of Theodore Knepp, Glenmoore and Carol Cummings, Delaware. Four grandchildren: Dana Tomko, Daniel Grubb Jr., Tiffany Cummings and Todd Benner; 16 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great grandchildren and her fur baby’s, Pita and Harry also survive her.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Deidre (Benner) Grubb and her granddaughter, Nicole (Knepp) Howe.

Services will be livestreamed on Barbara's obituary page on Monday, January 11, 2021, at 12 p.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading with burial to follow at Laureldale Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
