Obituary for Barbara A. Lubas

Barbara A. Lubas, 88, of Wernersville, passed away on December 25, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was the widow of Joseph E. Lubas, who passed away in 1985.

Born in Reading to the late Joseph S. and Anna A. (Bilak) Galdun, Barbara graduated from Reading Catholic High School in 1951. She worked for many years as a clerk in the claims department at Aetna.

Barbara was a devoted Catholic and a long-time member of Saints Cyril and Methodius Roman Catholic Church of Reading.

In her later years, Barbara was passionate about Bingo. She enjoyed baking, especially for church functions. Her recipes for Halusky and Pirohy are cherished family traditions. A talented crocheter, Barbara would crochet hats, mittens, and blankets for her daughter’s kindergarten class—items that remain adored by former students.

Left to treasure Barbara’s memory are her children: Theresa Maurer (Scott) of Palmetto, FL; Ann Marie Matousek (Michael) of Millersville, MD; Sharon Hand (widow of Thomas) of Reading; Joseph “J.J.” Lubas (Renee) of Wernersville; Kathleen “Kosh” Ciaffone (Marc) of East Norriton; and Gregory Lubas (Chrissa) of Mantua, NJ; her 16 grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, Michael J. Galdun of Reading. In addition to her husband, Joseph, and her parents, Barbara was predeceased by her sister, Joan I. Staron, her brother, Joseph S. Galdun, and two beloved grandchildren.
