Obituary for Benjamin J. Roseto

Benjamin J. (Ben) Roseto died in Reading Hospital and Medical Center on March 23, 2007.
Born in Ridgway, Pennsylvania on March 21, 1913 to Italian immigrant parents Luciano and Concetta (Del Puzo) Roseto. He was the oldest boy in a family of 12 children.
He received his bachelors degree from Duquesne University. After college he taught high school in Brockway, PA. He entered the Army in February, 1941 and served in both North Africa and Italy until the war ended. In 1941 Ben was recalled to the US Army and served in Munich, Germany during the Berlin Airlift. He also served in South Korea before retiring from the Army in 1963. He continued his lifelong career in defense and counter-intelligence work as a civilian in Verona, Italy, Heidelberg, Germany and Washington, D.C.. He and his wife, Mary, retired to Wyomissing, PA in 1976.
Ben was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, West Reading, the Torch Club and VFW, Sinking Spring. While stationed in Germany and already 60 years old, he starting running competitively and was in a total of 80 events. He was one of the founders of the Wyomissing Volksmarch. He volunteered for Meals on Wheals as well as the Wyomissing Jr./Sr. High School library.
Ben was predeceased in death by his wife, Mary Alice (Hinnershitz) in 1993 and his daughter , Constance Mary Benita in 1967. He was also predeceased in death by four brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are brothers Michael C., of Wyomissing, Louis of Morristown, NJ, sisters Bette Jane Roseto of Erie, PA and Emily Gardner of Denver, CO. He is also survived by 3 children: Lucinda J. Kroon of Wyomissing, Melissa R. Kreps, wife of Donald E. Kreps, Wyomissing and Benjamin P. of Spring Township. Also surviving are grandson Matthew M. Kreps, M.D. of Wilmington, NC, and granddaughter Sarah E. Kreps of Washington, D.C..
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Monday at 10 a.m. Interment will be held in Spies Zion Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, PA 19611. www.kuhnfuneralhome.com
