Obituary for Bernard "Ben" Kemp

Bernard "Ben" Kemp, of Wyomissing, passed away peacefully in Reading Hospital on Thursday, February 2, 2023. He was the loving husband of Joan (Johnson) Kemp, with whom he celebrated 71 years of marriage.

Born in Reading on March 20, 1933, he was a son of the late Thomas and Flora (Rollman) Kemp. Ben was a 1951 graduate of Reading High School where he lettered in football, baseball, and basketball. He coached baseball for Pulaski Post, Gregg Post, and West Lawn Owls in Legion and the Olivet's in Class C. He refereed scholastic football and basketball for many years.

Ben was employed with Western Electric in maintenance and retired from Lucent in 1989. He was an officer with the Pioneer group.

In addition to his wife, Joan, Bernard is survived by his son, James Kemp of Flying Hills.

Bernard was predeceased by four sisters: Mary Nuckolls, Flora "Babe" Cinfici, Dorothy "Dot" Beiswanger, and Marlene Matz; and six brothers: Kenneth, Meredith, Richard, Leonard, Raymond, and Milan Kemp.

Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Olivet Boys and Girls Club, 1161 Pershing Blvd, Reading, PA 19611.
