Obituary for Betty M. Lehman (Mellinger)

Betty M. Lehman, 95, passed away February 20, 2021, at the Reading Hospital.

She was the wife of Bennie S. Lehman, who passed away in 1986.

Born March 8, 1925, in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Rolla and Vera (Sprecher) Mellinger.

A graduate of Shippensburg High School, class of 1943, Betty was an employee of Letterkenny Ordnance Depot during World War II, forgoing college to support her family.

Prior to moving to Sinking Spring, Betty had been a member of Middle Spring Presbyterian Church and served as its organist for 18 years. She shared her love of music by giving piano lessons during her years as a homemaker.

Betty led a life committed to Christian values and treated everyone with kindness and compassion.
She was a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church since 1965 and was active in various groups, especially its Caring Community.

From 1970 until 1987, she was employed by National Central Bank (now Wells Fargo), serving in various positions both at the West Lawn and Reading offices. She retired as Operations Manager.
After retiring from banking, in addition to serving her church community, Betty cared for her family. Whether travelling back to Shippensburg to care for her siblings, being the ever-helpful grandparent, or assisting her daughter with teaching paperwork, Betty gave her time frequently and generously. Care of family was her primary desire.

She is survived by her daughter, Christine L. Orzechowski, wife of Robert D. Orzechowski and their children:
Keegan D. Orzechowski, his wife, Jennifer, and their children: Evan, Quinn, and Benjamin; Kevin D. Orzechowski and his son, Tyson; Kerri B. Collins, wife of Daniel R. Collins, and their children: Ryan and Kinsley. She is also survived by numerous nieces and a nephew.

Betty was pre-deceased by her son, Rodney Lehman, in 1970 and also by four siblings:
Glenn Mellinger of Camp Hill; Mildred Reindollar of Fairfield; Dorothy Singiser of Shippensburg; Donald Mellinger of Shippensburg.

Betty’s deep faith, quiet strength and loving kindness will be sadly missed by all. She is our loss and heaven’s gain.

Interment and a graveside service will be private in Spring Hill Cemetery, Shippensburg. A Memorial service will be held at a future date at West Lawn United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to West Lawn United Methodist Church. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, West Reading, is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be expressed at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
