Obituary for Caroline J. Reber (Ziemba)
Caroline J. (Ziemba) Reber, 91, passed away Friday, September 25, 2020, at the Reading Hospital after she was involved in an unexpected auto accident. She was the widow of Ralph A. Reber.
Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Katherine (Mystic) Ziemba. Caroline grew up on the family farm in Birdsboro, which is now considered part of the Daniel Boone Homestead estate. She worked as a live-in-nanny, outside of Reading, and she was proud to have graduated from the Mount Penn High School in 1947.
Caroline, along side her husband, operated several restaurants. She initially met Ralph in Morgantown, where they married, and went on to manage the Heritage Restaurant and Musket Lounge. Next they opened up the Village Coffee Shoppe in down town Morgantown. After five years, they sold those businesses and moved onto Lancaster to run the Canterbury Court Restaurant at The Stevens House. Next they went on to manage Bube's Brewery in Mount Joy. After establishing that business, Carol wanted something of her own. She established The Ye’ old Village Coffee Shoppe in downtown Landisville. Fast forwarding through life's changes, she purchased a small home in Womelsdorf where she opened a sandwich shop called The Tree Stump.
Carol was an exceptional person and individual who was not afraid to work. No job was too big or too small for her, even at 91. Her favorite thing to do was to take road trips. At a moments notice she was willing to travel 3.5 hours to Wellsboro, to help the owner Randy of The Frog Hut as a prep cook for ten days straight, where she worked from 10-5 each day. She was a spitfire of a women who wasn't afraid to express her opinions! She will definitely be remembered for all the life lessons she passed onto her family.
Carol loved the Lord and a good sermon. She took pity on the unfortunate and was very charitable. She especially gave to charities concerning children and veterans. Although her family is deeply saddened that she has passed away, they are grateful that she was able to have a strong relationship with the Lord and a strong belief in God. She is at peace, and we know she has gone to be with our Savior.
Caroline will be remembered by her children: Karen J. Fink wife of Todd, William F. Yeager Jr husband of Kathy, Anthony J. Yeager, and Jack L. Reber. Her extended family including: Carey Yeager, Kimberly Shrom, and Lisa Liptock; her grand children: Alicia L. Degler, Rebeccah L. Blough, Nathanael L. Fink, Ali Zomorrodian, and Jaqueline Reber; her great grandchildren Derick Degler, Alex Degler, Aidan Degler, Thomas Goerner, and Theo Zomorrodian; and a great great grandson Carson Degler. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as her high school friend of 83 years, Audrey.
Of the ten Ziemba children, Caroline is survived only by her sister, Laura Berkowitz of Florida. In addition to her parents and husband, Carol was also predeceased by her former husband, William F. Yeager Sr.
Carol's family asks, in lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory be made to a charity of choice dedicated to caring for caring for children in need.
A funeral service for Carol will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2020 at 11:30 AM at the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, 739 Penn Ave, West Reading. Friends and family are invited to view from 10 AM until the start of services at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Forest Hills Memorial Park.
