Obituary for Catherine A. Eyrich (Diefenderfer)

Catherine A. “Kay” Eyrich, 82, of Sinking Spring, passed away during the evening hours of Tuesday, March 9, 2021 in the care of Manor Care, Sinking Spring. She was the widow of Kenneth A. Eyrich, who passed away June 20, 2015.

Born in Reading Kay was a daughter of the late James E. and Anna C. (Kenderdine) Diefenderfer. Kay graduated from Central Catholic High School and attended Albright College.

Kay loved working, so much so that her husband had a long battle to convince her to retire. She started her working career at Albright before accepting a position as teller of the Wyomissing New Home Banks (now Santander). Later, she worked in IT at Weidenhammer Systems. In the mid 80’s she took a position in the accounting department at Penn Iron Works, from where she retired in the early 2000’s as Controller.

A member of Lincoln Park United Methodist Church, Kay was a Sunday school teacher and sometime pianist. Kay was an avid reader, especially of mysteries. She was also an expert Bingo player, even though she did not win often.

Left to treasure her memory are her sons, Mark D., husband of Cindy Eyrich, of Spring Township, and Matthew J. Eyrich, Sinking Spring; her grandchildren, Jennifer and Jessica; her brothers, Jeffrey, husband of Pat Diefenderfer, of Whitfield, and Russell, husband of Paula Diefenderfer, of Utah.

Services will be Monday, March 15, 2021 at 10 AM at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, with burial following at Pleasant View Cemetery. Friends may call Monday from 9 until the start of services at the funeral home. Condolences, tributes, and fond memories may be expressed at www.kuhnfuneralhome.com.
