Obituary for Charlene Ulmer

Charlene (Shoemaker) Ulmer, 79, passed away April 29, 2024, at The Highlands at Wyomissing Skilled Nursing.

Born in Corpus Christi, TX, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Ann Louise (Geheart) Shoemaker.

She was the loving wife of Randall Ulmer. They were married 57 years.

She was a graduate of Albright College where she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education.

Charlene was employed by Cocalico Jr. High School as a Home Economics and English Teacher for many years.

Family and faith were most important to Charlene, she was a member of Bausman Memorial United Church, Wyomissing.

Charlene demonstrated a high level of involvement in both her community and her daughters' lives. She held the position of past president of the PTA, leadership position in the Highlands book club, was an active member of the Jr. League, served on the Board of Directors of the local library, and even took on the responsibility of overseeing transportation during an event when Phil Donahue was in town. Charlene was also an active bridge player and enjoyed playing with friends. Her dedication to various roles within the community showcased her commitment to making a positive impact and contributing to the betterment of those around her.

Her daughters and grandchildren will forever hold a deep sense of gratitude towards her for instilling in them the values of hard work and a strong sense of family. Even during her 14-year confinement to bed, she served as a loving mentor, teaching her children and grandchildren the art of cooking and sewing. One of her remarkable talents was knitting and cross-stitching. Among the cherished possessions of her daughter is the cookbook that their mother gifted her, filled with incredible recipes that continue to inspire and delight her.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters, Denise L, wife of Ernie Magalotti and their children, Emily Magalotti and Cameron Magalotti; and Michelle, wife of Charlie Parker, and their children, Lilly Parker and Pierce Parker.

At Charlene's request, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contribution may be made to Bausman Memorial United Church of Christ, 1064 Penn Ave, Wyomissing, PA 19610. Edward J.
