Obituary for Chee Yuen Hong

Chee Yuen Hong, 86, passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2023, surrounded by his loving family in the care of Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Qew Yuen Hong, who passed away in 2010.

Immigrating from China in 1950, Chee was a graduate of Reading High School and Wyomissing Polytechnic Institute, graduating with an engineering degree. He worked at Textile Machine Works before taking over operation of the family business, Far East Restaurant. He also operated Hong’s Imports gift shop, a greenhouse, and a snack bar and souvenir shop at the Pagoda.

He was proud of the life he built for his family. Some of his pastimes included mahjong and pinochle, and he enjoyed singing with his family.

Surviving are his children: Ed Hong (Joyce); James Hong (Yung); Nancy Labricciosa (Tom Fleming); and Linda Kummerer. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren: Jennifer (Ryan), Kathryn (Jeremy), and Eddie (Neil); Tiffany (Byron), Ariana (Mark), Jason, and Nathan; Marco (Luana), Gianni (Mika), and Dante; and Alexandra (Nate) and Mitchell (Nicole); great grandchildren Jordyn and Mia, with two more expected, and step great grandchildren, Brayden, Bryna, and Braelyn.

Services for Chee will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, 739 Penn Ave, West Reading. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the start of services. Friends and family will gather at the funeral home on Wednesday from 9:00-9:15 a.m. to process to the Forest Hills Memorial Park for committal. Condolences may be expressed at kuhnfuneralhomes.com
