Obituary for Christine P. "Chris" Shaeffer

Christine "Chris" P. Shaeffer, , passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 22, 2021, after a 3 1/2 year battle with ovarian cancer. Chris was the loving wife of Peter Shaeffer, with whom she shared a marriage of 32 years.

Born in Reading, Chris was a daughter of the late James and Rita (Magdalinos) Petrakes. She graduated from Wilson High School in 1974. Chris was employed by Boscov's Department Store for 43 years until her retirement in 2017. A very hard worker, she did everything with integrity.

She was a member of Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, and was a member of the church Philoptochos Society.

Chris loved being outside, working in the yard and her garden, and taking walks. Hiking Mt. Mansfield in Vermont with her husband put her to the test. She loved all animals, but especially cats. Chris was an excellent cook whose main ingredient in every dish was always an extra dash of love.

Please remember Chris as the kind, thoughtful, bright, sunny person she was, always spoiling all the kids with lots of presents (and not just at Christmas).

In addition to her husband, Peter, Christine's memory will be treasured by her sister, Irene M. (David) Becker, of Wyomissing, and her niece, Nikki (Tim) Gromis and their children, Bailey and Darick and her brothers-in-law, Thomas and son Tom; and Carl (Candy) Shaeffer and their children Stacey and Kelli. Other survivors include: Stephanie (Elaine) and their children, Caroline and Madelyn; Steve (Joyce) Lecatsas and their son Steve, Jr.; Joanne Gehas; Mary Tripolitis; Peter (Joan) Sideris and their children Anna and Arthur; and Mike (Donna) Brown, and their son, Brandon. Chris wishes all her love to her nieces and nephews "to the moon and back."

In memory of Chris, please consider donating small jars of flowers to be present at the church for private services and in turn will be donated to the Wyomissing Nursing and Rehabilitation Center across the street from the church. Other donations may be given to the American Cancer Society (3893 Adler Pl Suite 170, Bethlehem, PA 18017), Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church (1001 E Wyomissing Blvd, Reading, PA 19611), or One by One Cat Rescue (PO Box 272 Temple, Pa 19560).

Services will be private at the convenience of her family. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
