Obituary for David J. Campbell

David J. Campbell, 68, of Reading, passed on December 20, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Reading on March 12, 1955, he was the son of the late Alexander, Jr. and Mary (Ulrich) Campbell.

He was a graduate of the Reading High School class of 1973, and went on to earn an Associate’s degree in industrial engineering at Reading Area Community College. After college, David worked at H-H Boot, as well as East Penn Manufacturing until his retirement. His love of cars started as a child, spending many nights at the Reading Fairgrounds racetrack. He made many lifelong friends there, and would help around until its closing in 1979. David shared those fond memories with anyone who would listen.

Along with racing and cars, David had a passion for sports, especially any team from Philadelphia. He enjoyed being the assistant coach for his daughter’s basketball and softball teams. He will be remembered as a family man, and a jokester with the ability to make anyone laugh.

David’s family wishes to give a special thank you to the staff at the Reading Hospital for the compassion and care he received during his time there.

Those left to treasure David’s memory are the mother of his children, Bonita Campbell; his daughters, Gabrielle Campbell, of Temple; and Meghann Criaris (Andrew) of Boonton, NJ; his sister, Louise Ludwig (David); sister-in-law, Nancy Campbell; and his beloved granddog, Tucker. He was predeceased by his brother, Bruce A. Campbell, who passed September 1, 2001.

A memorial service will be held for David on December 29, 2023 at 11 a.m. at Kuhn Funeral Home in West Reading. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to the time of the service. The family encourages those in attendance to wear their favorite sports team gear.
