Obituary for Dennis Lee Ganter

Dennis Lee Ganter – The man. The myth. The legend. The self-proclaimed mayor. Dennis passed away peacefully at the age of 75 on July 13th, 2022 surrounded by his family. The world was forever-changed on March 30, 1947 when Dennis was born in Reading, PA. He was a Reading High School Graduate class of 1964. If you were lucky enough to know Dennis, you know he loved vacationing in St. Maarten, trips to Lancaster and Yocco’s, JazzFest, rooting for the Phillies and Eagles, playing flashlight tag with his grandkids, beautiful women and cracking a joke or two. Not necessarily in that order. When it came to potting flowers, Dennis was the best in the business. And he loved doing it. Proud of his Italian heritage, he loved to cook his infamous meatballs and wings for family and friends. He was a fashionista who single-handedly curated a collection of 100+ pairs of slippers (shoes). And Dennis was also great at decorating, bowling, golf, dancing and rocking a mustache with a head of silver curly hair. But most importantly, he was a master at making every single person he came across (strangers included) smile.

Most of you know him by Dennis, Denny, Dennie,Den, DDD, Curly, Pop-pop, GG… He took off for that party in the sky to join his parents, Julia (Cardel) and Eugene Ganter; his sister Jean Nazzaro; and his wife Pauline “Cookie” Ganter.

His love for life and laughter will be carried on by his brother Al Cicogna; his daughters Joie McKim and her husband Terry, JoLynne Brew and her husband Harlan, Jamie Tashjian and her husband David; his best friend Barbara Screpesi; his significant other Stephanie Bailey; and five delightful grandchildren Taylor Brew, Carley Brew, Conley McKim, Sydney Tashjian and Dexton McKim.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to https://www.foodallergy.org/donate in honor of his grandson Dexton. And since we know you all have a funny Dennie story or two, please share your favorites at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.

A Catholic Mass will be held at 10am on Monday, July 18 at Holy Rosary Church, 3rd and Franklin Street Reading Pa, all are welcome.

Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc, West Reading is in charge of arrangements.
