Dennis J. Menzies, 70, resident of Wyomissing and loving husband of Denise Goeltz-Menzies, passed away unexpectedly with his family by his side on Monday, February 13, 2023.
Born in Baltimore to the late Robert and Margaret (Miller) Menzies, Dennis graduated from Parkville High School in 1971. Following high school Dennis attended Johns Hopkins University, where he proudly played Lacrosse for the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays, and earned his Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering and Geography. Shortly after graduating in 1975, Dennis continued his education and graduated from George Washington University with his Master Degree of Economics.
Although Dennis had not lived in Baltimore for over 40 years, he was still a Marylander at heart. His love and passion for the Ravens, Orioles, Johns Hopkins Blue Jays and, of course, Maryland crabs, have all been passed on to his daughters. Dennis was an avid golfer, responsible for organizing countless trips with his golfing buddies to Kiawah Island, Myrtle Beach and ultimately a trip to St. Andrews in Scotland- a trip he held dear to his heart. Not only did Dennis indulge in a golfer's paradise in Scotland, but it gave him the opportunity to explore his Scottish heritage. The self-proclaimed “grill-master”, Dennis loved sitting around the table, enjoying a nice steak dinner with his wife and daughters.
Dennis also loved the beach, and the family vacations spent in the OBX were especially dear to him. He was most content sitting in his chair, reading a book and watching the waves. In May of 2004 Dennis and Denise celebrated their love with family and friends beachside on the Caribbean Island of Anguilla. While their marriage began in 2004, their love and friendship began on December 22, 1996. They bonded over the similarity of their name and it was a love connection at first sight. Shortly after their first date, Dennis kept a picture of Denise in his wallet and to this day it has never been removed.
A strong work ethic was instilled in Dennis from an early age. He began his career working for Metal Goods in Inside Sales, moving first to Virginia and relocating to Dallas, Texas. In 1985, he began working for Cressona Aluminum, ultimately settling in Pennsylvania to be closer to family and his Baltimore roots. Dennis was employed at Cressona Aluminum until early 1996. From 1996-2003 he served as Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Superior Tube in Collegeville, PA. The final leg of his career was with Hydro Extrusions, NA as Director of Customer Service/Marketing where he continued his leadership and passion in the Metals industry. With a 45 year career in the Metals industry, Dennis was highly respected and a key member of numerous Metals organizations; Aluminum Association(AA)- Statistical Market Research Committee, Aluminum Extruders Council(AEC), Metal Service Centers Institute(MSCI) and Precision Machined Products Association (PMPA.)
Left to treasure Dennis’s memory are his loving wife of 18 years, Denise; his daughters, Lauren E. Menzies of Hoboken and Allyson T. Bahremand, wife of Amir Bahremand, of Edgewater; and his grandson, Kian Menzies Bahremand. Dennis is also survived by his brother, Robert Menzies (Patricia), and his sister, Jayne Donohoe (Michael). Dennis also enjoyed a close relationship with his mother in law, Joyce I. Goeltz, widow of Grant A. Goeltz. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart, as well as many cousins he loved dearly and a multitude of treasured lifelong friendships.
