Obituary for Dennis J. Vogt

Dennis J. Vogt, 67, passed away on August 15, 2023 in Pottstown. He was the devoted husband of Teresa (Evangelista) Vogt. They shared 19 wonderful years together until her passing in 2002.

Born in Pottstown, he was the beloved son of the late John and Dorothy (Weller) Vogt. Dennis graduated from Reading Senior High School. He was employed as a truck driver for most of his working career, traveling both locally and around the United States.

Dennis had a range of hobbies that included fishing at different rivers and lakes in the local area and watching football, always rooting for his favorite team, the Eagles. He greatly loved vacationing at the shore and spending time outdoors, especially trips to East Coast beaches including Atlantic City, Ocean City, and Myrtle Beach. He was fond of gardening with different types of plants and flowers, ensuring his wife and his yard were always beautiful. He was fond of the many older cars he owned, his favorites including a ’75 Plymouth Valiant and a ‘72 Buick Electra. He loved his family, taking care of his wife after an extensive illness until her passing of which both he and his daughter were at her bedside for her last breath. He had a soft spot and love for animals, especially cats, of which the family had many he cared for throughout the years. After years of practice, he refined his skills in woodworking, able to beautifully refinish and build furniture, and mastering wood burning skills into different pieces.

Though he may be gone in body, many memories remain of his life and as a father. He had many struggles throughout his life, and reflecting on his past, he was able to move forward and create a better life for himself and those closest to him. His daughter’s favorite memory was many fishing trips to Lake Ontelaunee where he would take her and had her convinced as a child that money grew on trees, seemingly being able to pull coins out of the tree bark. To this day she still doesn’t know how he did that!

Left to treasure Dennis’ memory are his children, Angela Vogt, Jason Vogt and his wife, Kelli and Christine Shafer; his grandchildren, Rylie, Zoey and Jason Jr., and a great-grandchild on the way; and his sister, Denise Roadcap. In addition to his wife, Dennis is predeceased by his parents and siblings Jean Maggard, Seth Vogt, Dwight Weller and Harold Keifrider.
