Obituary

Dolores C. Myatt, 89, passed away April 11, 2021, at Berkshire Center.

We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to Angela Golowski for the loving care she provided to our parents over the last few years.

Dolores was the loving wife of the late Alfred J. Myatt Jr. for 62 years.

Born in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Stella (Julian) Caltagirone.

Dolores was a 1949 graduate of Reading Catholic High School and a 1953 graduate of Kutztown University. She also attended Penn State University for graduate classes and later earned her Reading Specialist certification.

She spent 30 years as an educator in the Reading School District, retiring in 1988, and was a mentor to many young teachers. Teaching children was one of her passions in life, and she was always loved and remembered by her students. Her commitment to education also led her to open a retail store, which provided much needed classroom resources to her fellow educators.

Dolores was involved with the Sons of Italy, South Berks - Retired Teachers, 1500 Club, LaSalle Tuition Review Committee, Prime Timers, and Reading Catholic Reunion Committee, and she also served as the former president of the Junior Catholic Women’s Club.

She was a faithful member of St. John Baptist de la Salle Roman Catholic Church, Shillington.

Dolores was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by two children, Kathleen M. (Allen) Kardoley, Exeter Township, and Jonathan J., Shillington; three granddaughters: Amanda (Andrew) Higgins, Emily and Kristen Kardoley; and two great-grandsons, Liam and Landon Higgins. She is also survived by five siblings: Anthony (Marjorie) Caltagirone, Exeter Township, Thomas R. Caltagirone, Reading, Joseph (Sharon) Caltagirone, Robesonia, James (Patricia) Caltagirone, Wyomissing, and Patricia (Joseph) O’Brien, West Lawn, and many nieces and nephews.

Dolores was predeceased by six siblings: Samuel (Eleanor) Caltagirone, Rose Caltagirone, Josephine Caltagirone, Raymond (Veronica) Caltagirone, Franklin (Marilyn) Caltagirone, and John Caltagirone.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, April 17, 2021, at 10:00 A.M. at St. John Baptist de la Salle R.C. Church, 42 Kerrick Rd, Shillington, PA 19607 with burial to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. Family and friends may call Friday, April 16, 2021, from 6 to 8 P.M. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., West Reading. Contributions may be made to LaSalle Academy, 440 Holland St, Shillington, PA 19607. Condolences may be expressed at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.

Mrs. Myatt was my teacher at Thomas Ford Elementary School many, many years ago. I am 54 years old and I still remember her as being a very good teacher and a very kind and special woman. Seeing her obituary in the Reading Eagle brought back fond memories. Condolences to her family from this former student. Gina Nestro Zabinski
