Obituary for Dominic Joseph Viscardi Sr.

Dominic J. Viscardi, Sr, of Pottstown, passed away Saturday, April 29th, 2023 at Keystone Villa, Douglassville where he had been a resident for the last four years.

Born in Pottstown, he was the son of the late John Viscardi and Mary (DaCaneicao) Baldassarri. He was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Doris R. Viscardi

Dominic graduated from Pottstown Senior High School in 1946 and was a member of St. Aloysius R.C.C.in Pottstown.

Dominic had a notable career in the culinary arts. He got his first job in the restaurant business at the age of 14 washing dishes. He worked his way up to waiter and short-order cook, eventually becoming an Executive Chef. As Chef, Dominic worked at Brookside Country Club, Hotel Shuler and Sunnybrook where he retired in 1990. Some of Dominic’s fan favorites were his prime rib, crab cakes, and rice pudding.

Dominic was a loyal community supporter belonging to numerous service civic organizations. He served as past president of the Pottstown chapter of the AMBUCS where he earned a membership into The Big Hat Club. During his tenure as an AMBUC he was instrumental in organizing Pottstown’s first Soap Box Derby in 1995, a tradition that lives on today. He was a member of the Masons and achieved the status of 32nd degree. Dominic has also been a faithful member of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks #814 since 1964.

Dominic continued his service to others by serving as the Resident Council President at the retirement community of Keystone Villa in Douglasville. He was enthusiastic about recognizing his fellow residents’ birthdays and other milestones. He was loved by the residents and staff and became to be known as “The Mayor of Keystone”.

Dominic was a devoted father and family man and is survived by his six children; Marlene, wife of Edward Smith of Pottstown, Cheryl, wife of Jesse Baro of Douglassville, Dominic J. Viscardi Jr. of Pottstown, Cynthia, widow of David Conklin of New Bern, N.C., Melanie, wife of William Seeders of Pottstown, and Victoria, wife of Raymond Heller Jr. of Sutherland, Va.

He is also survived by 14 grandchildren: Nichol Smith, Parrish Smith and Adria (Smith), wife of David Angstadt, Christopher Hamilton, Rebecca (Hamilton), wife of Eric Duble, Leif Matlack, Steven Matlack, and Steve Baro, husband of Tammy, Alexa Viscardi, Nicholas Viscardi, Catherine Conklin Force, Jessica Seeders, William Dominic Seeders and Anna (Heller), wife of Matthew Clark. He is also survived by 23 great grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson. He was predeceased by a grandson Jarrod Conklin; and two granddaughters, Melanie Hamilton and Rachel Conklin Daughety.

Dominic was loved and admired by many, especially by the friends of his children who affectionately called him Mr. V.

An evening viewing will be held on Sunday, May 7th, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Warker-Troutman Funeral Home, Inc.; 726 E. High Street Pottstown, Pennsylvania.

There will be an additional viewing prior to service on Monday, May 8th, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at St. Aloysius Roman Catholic Church; 223 Beech Street, Pottstown, Pennsylvania.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Aloysius R.C.C. on Monday, May 8th at 11:00 a.m. Interment will immediately follow at St. Aloysius New Cemetery in Lower Pottsgrove.
