Obituary for Donald K. Bobb
Donald K. Bobb, 91, a resident of The Highlands, Wyomissing, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2021. He was the son of the late Dr. Arthur A. Bobb and the late Arlene Klinger Bobb. He is survived by his dear wife, Margaret (Peggy) Nuss Bobb, who he married in September 1952.
Donald was a graduate of Reading High School ’47, Lafayette College ’51, and the University of Pennsylvania School of Law ’56.
He served as an Army Infantry Communications Officer during the Korean War (1952-1953) earning the Combat Infantry Badge and a Bronze Star for Meritorious Service.
He joined the Reading law firm of Snyder, Balmer, & Kershner in 1956 and retired from the successor firm of Mogel, Speidel, Bobb, & Kershner in January 2001. He served as Secretary, and later, as President, of the Berks County Bar Association. He was one of the Founder-Directors of the Berks County Estate Planning Council. On November 7, 1983, he was elected a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Council.
He was one of the Founder-Directors of Family Guidance Institute and served several terms as its President and Solicitor. He served as Solicitor to the Spring Township School District and later as Chairman of the Wilson School Authority. He was Solicitor to the Berks County Recorder of Deeds (the “Hilgendorf Era”) for more than 23 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Fleming (husband, James), Harrisburg, his son, John M. Bobb (wife, Kathryn), West Lawn, and his daughter, Amy Weyman (husband, Greg), Gaithersburg, MD. He relished his many fun and book reading times with his grandchildren: Christopher, Daniel, Meghan, Elliot, Madeline, and Jacob, and his great grandchildren: Parker and Sophie. He was tragically predeceased in September 1991 by both his dear sister, Alice Bobb Brendel, a Librarian at Brown University, and her daughter, Emily Brendel. He is survived by his brother, Dr. Arthur A. Bobb, Jr., Stuart, FL.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Reading, and served it as Lay-Leader, Vestry member, and as a member on various Church committees. He was a Trinity cook for the Reading Shelter and served as a cook for Trinity Hunger Breakfasts, where he introduced the congregation to grits. He also prepared various cookbooks, including a Trinity Cookbook (to celebrate Trinity’s 250th Anniversary) and a very special Family Cookbook for his children and grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Donald’s memory may be offered to Trinity Lutheran Church, 527 Washington St, Reading, PA 19601, or to the Highlands Endowment Fund, 2000 Cambridge Ave, Wyomissing, PA 19610.
