Obituary for Dorothy Spina
Dorothy Spina, 88, of Wyomissing, Pa., passed away in her home on Feb. 18, 2021. Joseph Spina, her loving husband for over 65 years, was by her side.
She was born on July 19, 1932, daughter of the late Camillo and Maria (Periandri) Cavallucci. Dorothy grew up in south Reading and attended Holy Rosary Grade School and St. Peter’s Reading Catholic High School. She worked most of her life at CNA Insurance in Reading, retiring in 1994.
Dorothy is predeceased by her brothers Joseph, Anthony, Louis Cavallucci; and sisters Anna Dadamio, Lucy Stufflet. Philomena (Mamie) DeMarco. In addition to her husband, she is survived by nieces and nephews with whom she spent many fun birthdays, holidays and other family events together.
She was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary RC church and the senior choir. Dorothy also was a member of the women’s Rosary Society and could be found working alongside her family at the church’s summer picnics, as well as other parish functions each year. Another activity she enjoyed – the annual “Our Gang” reunion with all the women who grew up and played together south of Penn along Second Street.
Always known as the quiet and calm one (of all her siblings), Dorothy loved trips to casinos, baking (cheesecakes, pizzelles), playing poker, singing and dancing, sweets, watching CSI and shopping for her fashionable wardrobe.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday February 24, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Rosary Church, with visitation from 9:30-10:00 a.m. at the church. Entombment will follow at Gethsemane Mausoleum, Laureldale. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to Holy Rosary Parish, 237 Franklin St., Reading, PA 19602. Edward J.
