Obituary for Douglas S. Richart
Douglas S. Richart, 91, of Wernersville, passed away on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Phoebe Berks Healthcare Center. Born in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late Howard and Muriel (Long) Richart and was the husband of Joan J. Richart, his life partner of 33 years, until her passing in 2019.
Douglas graduated from Franklin & Marshall College, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and was a longtime Alumni. He held a long career in polymer science research, had numerous U.S. patents, and was the author of several technical papers.
He and Joan loved skiing, playing cards, traveling, and wintering to Stuart, FL together. He also enjoyed playing tennis, and in the last five years took an interest in stock market research and working out investment strategies.
Douglas is survived by his four children: Deborah Robinson, Sandra Green (Alan), Stephen Richart (Cynthia), and Catherine Richart, six grandchildren: Alexandria, Andrew, Gina, Daniel, Kirsty, and Douglas, seven great-grandchildren: Oliver, Leo, Evan, Gabriella, Malachi, Bryer, and Matthew, and three step-children: Barbara Lombardo, Elizabeth Abel, and Karen Brill. He was preceded in death by three siblings: Dori Cressler, Mary Richart, and Betsy Connelly.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Phoebe Ministries, Office of Philanthropy, 1925 W. Turner St. Allentown, PA 18104.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 24, 2023 at 11 AM at Phoebe Berks Healthcare Center, 9 Reading Drive Wernersville,PA 19565, with a luncheon to follow.
