Obituary for Dr. Clodualdo S. Orquiza

Dr. Clodualdo (Clod) S. Orquiza died peacefully on Sunday, December 25, 2022 at the age of 89. The oldest child of Dr. Clodualdo T. Orquiza and Raymunda Soriano Orquiza was born in 1933 and spent his early life in Cabiao, Nueva Ecija, Philippines. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Kaaren Boyer Orquiza.

In 1957 he graduated from the University of the Philippines with a degree in medicine and left the Philippines to pursue medical training in the United States. His first stop was in Kansas City, Missouri, where he served a rotating internship, followed by a pathology residency in Washington DC, a surgical residency at Hartford Hospital, Connecticut, and three years at The Reading Hospital, Reading, Pennsylvania as a surgical resident. After returning to the Philippines for a year, he and Kaaren wed and moved to Regina, Saskatchewan to await his visa to return to the United States. While there they met other physicians waiting for visas, many who became life-long friends.

Upon return to the US in 1966, he completed a Urology residency at Albany Medical Center, New York and following that made his final move back to Reading Hospital where he practiced Urology from 1969 until his retirement in 2001. He served as the chief of the department of Urology from 1985 to 1998.

He will be fondly remembered by family, friends, coworkers, hospital staff and former patients for his smile, laugh, storytelling and jokes.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Maria Elisa Orquiza, wife of Maurice Brown, his son Clodualdo S. Orquiza III, MD, his brother Danilo (Naomi), sister Aurora, grandchildren Lucas, Julian and Vivi Orquiza, Isaac Brown-Orquiza, step grand-children Chelsea, Candice and Paul Brown, step great-grand-daughter Juniper Fox, his brother-in-law Kieth W. Boyer and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by a brother Dr. Rene Orquiza and his sister-in-law JoAnne Boyer.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 6th from 4 to 7 PM at Kuhn Funeral Home, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, PA, 19611.
