Obituary for Edith Wentzel

Edith Thelma (Masano) Wentzel, 98, of Cambridge Commons, Wyomissing, passed away on January 1, 2023. She was the daughter of Frank and Carmela (Sgro) Masano. Born April 19, 1924, she lived in all hundred years.

After graduating from Reading High School, she spent many years in retail sales and management. Edith was a spiritual woman who had a devout connection with her Catholic faith.

Edith was predeceased by her loving husband, George “Ben” T. Wentzel and enjoyed a wonderful marriage, often saying, “I can’t believe I found such a wonderful man; those were the best eight years of my life.”

She was also predeceased by siblings, Thomas (Louise) Masano, Mary (Elwood “Ted”) Kauffman, Bruce (Barbara) Masano, and Josephine (Wolfgang) Krause and her niece, Denise (Masano) Swartz.

She is survived by her four loving nieces, Victoria Krause Bennett, Andrea Masano, Louise Masano and Monica Krause Wilson and her three wonderful nephews, Thomas Masano, John Masano and Bruce Masano, and 8 grand nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a stepson, James (Judith) Wentzel.

A highlight of her life was as an honored guest to the home of former President Jimmy Carter in Plains, Georgia. This was through the Wentzel side of the family's marriage to the President’s daughter.

With a keen sense of personal style, she was an elegant woman who loved long walks, her Hershey bars, cheesecake, and reminiscing with her last living sibling Tom, with fun stories and life observations.

The family would like to thank Christine Stallone for her invaluable aid to their aunt.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Parish, 740 Cherry St., West Reading, PA 19611

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated privately. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, was entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed at kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
