Obituary for Edmund S. Wartels

Edmund S. Wartels, Esq., a lifelong New Yorker, brilliant corporate attorney, avid Yankees fan, music enthusiast of Chopin and Beethoven, amateur horticulturist, died April 2, 2022, in Green Hills, PA.

Born September 23, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY, raised in New Rochelle, NY by parents Dr. Lester and Dorothy Wartels, Edmund, known by his childhood nickname “Bud,” attended The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and NYU School of Law and enjoyed living for decades in the Upper West Side of New York and then Chappaqua, NY. With natty attire, a sharp wit, a keen intellect, and an insightful and perfectionist approach to legal work, Bud practiced mergers and acquisitions and led the corporate law practice of Hall, Dickler, Lawler, Kent & Freidman in New York City, NY during his career.

Bud is survived by his adoring wife, Judith Perlstein Platt Wartels, of Green Hills, PA, who shared his enthusiasm for the great composers and classic cinema; the children of his first marriage to Joan King (deceased): Dr. Lisa (Stuart) Goldfarb, Drs. Michael (Lourdes) Wartels, and Jodi (David) Krueger; grandchildren: Matthew, Alexa, Gabriela, Alexander, Zachary, Danielle; and his step-children: Reina Platt, Thomas Platt, and Dr. Alec (Gretchen) Platt; and grandchildren: Asa, Jasper, Esme and Silas.

Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
