Obituary for Edward Chimenko

Edward R. Chimenko, 80, passed away peacefully in his Phoebe Berks residence, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Rzeszow, Poland, to the late Olena and Roman Chimenko, Edward and his family immigrated to the United States when he was a young child. They settled first in Maryland, later moved to Lancaster, and finally settled in Reading while Edward was in grade school. He graduated from Wilson Highschool in 1961, and he married his high school sweetheart, Karen (Barth). He and Karen shared over 60 years together.

He graduated from Kutztown University and attended Indiana University in Bloomington for post graduate work. He worked for many years for the Berks Intermediate Unit as a preschool teacher and for special needs children. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, writing, reading, and especially music. He played the saxophone and clarinet in several bands, lastly and for many years, “By Request.” He had a delightful and wry sense of humor, which kept his family entertained over the years.

Edward was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by his devoted wife, Karen; their daughter, Kate, wife of Dennis; his grandsons, Ian, Brandon, and Chris; his brother, George, and his wife, Enga; cherished nephews, Joey and Christian; his niece, Deborah; his daughter-in-law, Sandy (remarried to Les), and many dear extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, Edward was predeceased by his son, Peter.

Services for Edward will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Phoebe Berks Chapel, 1 Reading Drive, Wernersville PA 19565. Friends and family are welcome to begin gathering at 10:45 a.m. Condolences may be expressed at kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
