Obituary for Eileen M. LePage

Eileen McCullough LePage, 75, of Wyomissing, died peacefully at home on Tuesday, August 23, after battling multiple myeloma for several years. Born October 16, 1946, in Philadelphia, Eileen was the second of four children of Marie Teresa (Inglesby) and Charles Norman McCullough. She was the devoted wife of Clifford B. LePage Jr., and they enjoyed 48 years of marriage together.

Eileen was a 1964 graduate of Camden Catholic HS and earned her BA in English and Secondary Education from George Washington University in 1969. She went on to earn her MEd in Gifted Education from Temple University in 1972.

Eileen worked as a lecturer in English at Albright College, Adjunct Instructor at Reading Area Community College, and substitute teacher for Wyomissing Area School District. After teaching, Eileen worked as a licensed securities broker and financial consultant.

Theater and music were among Eileen’s favorite pastimes. She participated in several productions of the Reading Community Players theater group and attended theatrical productions ranging from Shakespeare to modern drama. Delighting in music of all types, she sang in the choir of the First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Berks County. In addition to attending Philadelphia Orchestra performances, Eileen enjoyed the classical music group, VoxAmaDeus, and Maestro Valentin Radu's enlivening commentary.
Eileen was also an avid bridge player, museum docent, and traveler. Over many decades, she played bridge regularly with close friends, family, and wider bridge circles, including online tables in more recent years. From 1999 until 2002, she was a volunteer museum guide at the Reading Public Museum and Art Gallery.

With Cliff and their two sons, Eileen traveled both in this country and abroad and had a special fondness for our National Parks. She loved the New Jersey seashore since childhood, and Ocean City in particular. Later in life, following Cliff’s partial retirement, Eileen spent increasing time enjoying the waves, sun, and salt air of the beach.

Eileen valued public service, serving on the Board of School Directors for the Wyomissing Area School District from 1984 through 1992. Additionally, she held a number of volunteer positions for Berks-area charitable and beneficial associations.

Eileen lived each day with great conviction. She was a loyal friend and an extraordinary mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by anyone fortunate enough to have known her personally.

Eileen is survived by her sons: Clifford B. LePage, III, of West Chester; and Alexander P. LePage, husband of Sloane (Farrell) of Berwyn, PA. Also surviving are the lights of her life, her grandchildren: Mia, Arielle, Margaux and Pierce LePage, as well as her sisters, Marianne Sullivan of Lititz, and Susanne Hoffman of Syracuse, Indiana, brothers-in-law, and sister-in-law Carol McCullough of Oakland, California, and many nieces and nephews. Eileen’s brother, Charles N. McCullough, Jr., preceded her in death earlier this year.

A Celebration of Eileen's life will be held Friday, September 16, 2022, at 12:30 p.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. The family requests no flowers please. In their place, please honor Eileen’s memory by making a donation in her name to the charity of your choice. Condolences may be expressed at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
