Obituary for Elaine S Becker

Elaine Becker, 93, formerly of Macungie and Reading, passed away in the early hours of Monday, February 22, 2021, in the care of the Masonic Village, Elizabethtown. She was the loving widow of Robert E. Becker, Jr., who passed in 1995. Born in Louisville, KY, Elaine was a child of the late William and E. Francis (Hund) Spangler. A graduate of West Reading High School, Elaine attended the McCann School of Business.

For ten years Elaine worked at the Bell Telephone Company before leaving the workforce to raise her family. A devout woman, Elaine was a member of St. Paul’s UCC, Trexlertown.

Elaine will be remembered for her legacy of service to others, especially her dedication to causes related to hunger and children. Well into her 80s, Elaine still volunteered as a cabin attendant for the Special Olympics at Ft. Indiantown Gap.

She treasured time spent with her children and grandchildren. When Gram, as she was known to her family, was not volunteering her time, she could be found enjoying a round of golf or tending to her garden.

Her memory will be forever treasured by her children: Jeffrey Becker, husband of Elaine, of Birdsboro; and Larry Becker, husband of Dori, of Wellsboro; her five grandchildren: Katie Merluzzi (Michael), Zachary Becker (Christina), Emily Mathisen (Craig), Randy Becker (Elizabeth), and Lori Smith (Derrick); and her seven great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Elaine was predeceased by her sister, Jane Greiner, and brother, William Spangler.
