Obituary for Emmanuel "Manny" Lahaniatis

Emmanuel J “Manny” Lahaniatis of Pennside passed away on December 14, 2022 at the age of 84.

His wife of 56 years, Eleni E. (Hatzigeorgiou) Lahaniatis, passed away on September 18, 2020.

Born in Rhodes, Greece, he was the son of the late John and Anastasia (Thriskou) Lahaniatis.

A veteran of the Greek Navy, Manny immigrated to the United States where he found work as a tailor and later owned and operated Athens Luncheonette in downtown Reading as well as Manny’s Ice Cream truck.

He loved to spend time in his garden where he grew summer vegetables and several fig trees.

He was a member of St. Matthew’s Greek Orthodox Church and Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, Reading.

Manny is survived by two sons, John, Dover, DE and Balasios, Reading, PA. Daughter-in-law Lucine Sihelnik and grandson, Orion Lahaniatis.

He was predeceased by one sister, Mary Efstathiou.

Services will be Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at 11 a.m. at Sts. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church with burial to follow at Charles Evans Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Contributions may be made to the church at the above address.
