Obituary for Ethel Ann Ashcroft

Ethel Ann (Roslin) Ashcroft, 95, passed away in the reading Hospital on July 12, 2022. She was the loving wife of Dr. Allen Ashcroft with whom she shared 65 years of marriage. Ethel was born in Reading, Pennsylvania on November 3, 1926, and was the daughter of the late John and Bertha (Check) Roslin. She had one brother and four sisters, and is survived by her sister Barbara Connors, of Viera Florida.

Ethel graduated from Reading High School, where she played on the school’s volleyball and basketball teams. She married “Doc” in 1950, and lived in Falls Church Virginia, Bally Pennsylvania, before moving to Reading in 1973. In her retirement years she enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Berkshire Country Club bowling team. After Allen passed away in 2016, she moved to the Highlands in Wyomissing, where she enjoyed playing games and meeting new friends.

Her proudest achievement was being the mother of her seven children. Ethel is survived by her son Allen Jr. husband of Sally, Ellicott City Maryland; a son Kevin husband of Diane, Allentown Pennsylvania; a son Michael who passed away in 2013 husband of Karen, Mt. Penn, Pennsylvania; a daughter Susan wife of Robert Strahler, Sarasota Florida; a son Brian husband of Lisa, Mt. Penn, Pennsylvania; a son Joseph husband of Anne, Wyomissing, Pennsylvania; a daughter Alisa wife of David Saganich, Acton, Massachusetts. She has 11 grandchildren: Chris, Britt, Alex, Meghan, Matt, Alexis, Morgan, Katelyn, Justin, Ethan and Devin and 9 great grandchildren: Gavin, Owen, Banks, Blaire, Declan, Sutton, Brooklyn, Olivia, and Macy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday July 15, 2022, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, 2810 St. Albans Drive Sinking Spring, PA. Entombment will follow the Mass at the Chapel of St. George at Gethsemane Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call Friday from 9 A.M. to 10:00 A.M. at the church, In Lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Msgr. James A. Treston St. Ignatius School Scholarship Fund at the above address.
