Obituary for Frank X. McGough

Frank X. McGough, 78, of Reading, passed away peacefully in the early hours of Saturday, April 24, 2021, in the care of Rittenhouse Village at Muhlenberg and Caring Hospice. He was the widower of Phyllis (Roland) McGough, who passed away in 1996.

Born November 9, 1942, in Rahway, NJ, he was the son of the late Frank and Irene (Dalton) McGough. In between his undergraduate study at Kentucky University and graduate work in urban planning at Penn State, Frank served in the Peace Corps. He was an avid traveler and enjoyed dining with friends and family, reading, listening to Frank Sinatra, woodworking, and being of service to others.

Frank spent his entire career working for the City of Reading, retiring in 1995 as the Executive Director of the Planning Commission. His desire to help others continued into retirement as he volunteered for the Berks County Association for the Blind.

Frank's memory will be treasured by his son, Matthew F. McGough, husband of Marina, of Reading; his loving companion of almost 20 years, Judy Henry; his granddaughters, Helene and Juliana; his niece Lynne Orlofsky of Rahway, NJ; and his nephews, James Russo of Colonia, NJ, and Edward Russo of Keller, TX.

In addition to his wife, Phyllis, and his parents, Frank was predeceased by his sister, Lois Russo.

Friends and family are invited to gather in memory of Frank on Thursday, April 29, 2021, from 3:30 pm until 5:30 pm at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Centre Park Historic District, 707 N 5th St, Reading, PA 19601, www.centreparkhistoricdistrict.org.
