Obituary for George Aheleas Kakalelis

George Aheleas Kakalelis, 78, passed away on Monday, July 25, 2022, at his Wyomissing residence. He was the husband of Antegone (Stavrinos) Kakalelis. They celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary earlier this month.

Born in Filia, Greece, he was the son of the late Aheleas and Marianthi Kakalelis. George was educated in Greece before coming to the United States and fulfilling his dream of owning his own restaurant. He owned and operated Speedy’s Sandwich Shop for over half his life, retiring in 2017. Previously, he worked at Riveredge Restaurant for almost ten years.

George was a long-time member of Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church. He was a loving man who cared deeply about his family. George had a heart of gold and was loved by many. He will be remembered for the joy he brought to many lives, always laughing and joking. He loved to dance, sing, and play his accordion.

Left to treasure George’s memory are his wife, Antegone; daughter, MaryAnn Kakalelis of Wyomissing Hills; sister, Anna Panos, wife of Bill, of Wernersville; brother, Antonio Kakalelis, husband of Panayiota, of Greece; and nieces, nephews, and their families.

George was predeceased by his daughter Stella.

The funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church with committal at Charles Evans Cemetery. The viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saints Constantine & Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 1001 E Wyomissing Blvd, Reading, PA 19611.
