Obituary for Gerald Hinkle

Gerald Rodney Hinkle, 97, of Kenhorst, passed away the afternoon of Wednesday, April 7, 2021 in the care of Reading Hospital. He was the widower of Gloria N. (Winters) Hinkle.

Born November 24, 1923 in West Reading, he was the son of the late E. Edgar and Florence H. (Hoffman) Hinkle.

Gerald was a graduate of West Reading High School and in 1948 he graduated from Polytechnic University. He worked as a machinist for over 44 years, retiring in 1986 from Textile Machine Works, later known as Rockwell. .

He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Shillington. Gerald was a United States Marine Corp Veteran who served during WWII.

He was a fifty year member of Isaac Hiester Lodge #660; Scottish Rite, Reading; Rajah Shrine and a sixty year member of the Gregg American Legion Post 12.

Gerald is survived by two sons: Geoffrey L., husband of Claire E. Hinkle, Reading; Daniel T., husband of Claudia Hinkle, Mohnton and a daughter, Christine L. Murray, Reading. Other survivors include six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his brother, Edgar H. Hinkle, December 17, 2008, and by a grandchild.

A service will be held Saturday, April 10, 2021, at 12 Noon at the Kuhn Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 5153 Kutztown Rd, Temple PA 19560, with Rev. Colleen Cox officiating. Entombment will be in Laureldale Mausoleum. Friends may visit one hour prior at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Opportunity House: 430 N. 2nd Street, Reading, PA 19601.
