A woman of great faith and independence, Gladys L. (Fick) Wernicki, 88, proud daughter, loving wife, grandmother, aunt, friend, and mentor made her final journey home on Wednesday, December 7, 2022, at the Reading Hospital. She was the wife of the late Richard M. Wernicki. She was also predeceased by her former husband, Grover W. Hogue, Sr.
She was the youngest of thirteen children born to the late John F. Fick and Helen M. (Janda) Fick. She was an avid reader and loved to write. She was employed at AT&T (Western Electric) for 26 years, where in addition to her work duties, she acted as a Union Rep and assisted her husband with shop steward duties. She was also the editor of the shop newsletter and furthered her education by earning multiple certifications in writing and labor relation courses.
Gladys’ faith was always the guiding force in her life. She ministered the word of God in whatever manner she was called through her everyday words and deeds. She served as a Sunday school teacher and she was a long-time member of Glad Tidings Assembly of God where she helped serve the congregation. More recently, she attended the faith community of Covenant Orthodox Presbyterian Church. She was active in the AT&T Pioneer Club and the Reading Works Pensioners Association.
She is survived by her sons, Grover W. Hogue of Rifle, CO and Kevin W. Hogue of Lake Havasue, AZ, six grandchildren: Eric Hogue, Alicia (Hogue) Croxton, Kevin Hogue, Justin Hogue, Jared Hogue, and Laurel Hogue as well as thirteen great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. We love and will miss her dearly, but she will always be with us through the lessons she taught us all in faith, service, and love.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022, at 2:00 p.m. at Kuhn Funeral Home, West Reading with interment at Sinking Spring Cemetery to follow. The viewing will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.
