Obituary for Guy Barton Sheaffer
Guy B. Sheaffer, 86, of Wyomissing, passed away the evening of Saturday, March 26, 2022, in the care of Manatawny Manor. The only child of the late Barton and Dorothy Sheaffer, he was born in Shillington.
Guy graduated as part of the last class of Shillington High School in 1952 before attending Lebanon Valley College.
A gifted musician, Guy picked up his first saxophone at the tender age of four. As a young man, Guy traveled to New York City to play in jazz clubs throughout the city. While in New York, he met his idol, Stan Getz; later in life Guy also met one of Stan’s daughters, who told Guy, “You play just like my father,” which Guy considered the highest compliment he ever received.
He returned to Berks County to raise his daughter, Christina. The love of music formed an unbreakable bond between them. For many years she sang for Guy’s band, The Nu-Sounds.
Left to treasure Guy’s memory are: his daughter, Christina Fausel (Scott) of Wyomissing; his stepchildren Paul Beck (Rosie) of Fleetwood and Lori Wright (Neil) of Saranac, NY; grandchildren Cameron Gehris, student at Penn State, and Julia Gehris, student at North Carolina State; and step-grandchildren Brad Schaeffer, Chrissy Nielsen, Jennifer Vicari (Dave), and Shylah Rae Beck. Guy is also survived by his former wife, Cathy Sheaffer.
He was predeceased by his step-son, Rick Beck, who is survived by his wife, Carol.
A memorial service for Guy will be held on Friday, April 1, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, PA 19611, with interment to follow at Pleasant View Cemetery, 650 Fritztown Rd, Sinking Spring, PA 19608.
