Obituary for Harlan L. "Scotty" Boyer

Harlan L. "Scotty" Boyer, 88, passed away peacefully in his Spring Township residence on Monday, March 1, 2021. He was the loving husband of Beverly June Bowman. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Charles and Jessie (Snedden) Boyer .

Harlan graduated from Shillington High School, class of 1950, He served as a pilot in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict, and, after his discharge, went on to study education at Millersville State College. In 1969, he earned his Masters in Guidance and Counseling. Harlan enjoyed 12 years at Governor Mifflin School District and 23 years at Schuylkill Valley School District before retiring in 1992.

A 32 Degree Mason, Harlan was a member of the Isaac Heister Lodge 660.

As a pilot Harlan had a passion for aircraft. He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, constructing the Varieze in 1980, which he later donated to the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum in 1997. He served as a past president of the Reading Aero Club. His passion also extended to cars, and he was a member of the Central Pennsylvania Triumph Club. After retirement, he restored a 1970 TR6, a 1960 TR3, and a 1972 Jaguar xKE. He was also a member of the Flying Dutchman Ski Club (where he met Beverly), the Tailhook Association, and the NRA.

In addition to his other interests, Harlan's favorite pastime was tending to his two acres of property, especially mowing his lawn.

In addition to his loving wife, Beverly, Harlan is survived by his son, Kirk L. Boyer of Shillington, and his daughter, Kirstin L. Boyer Bordner of Dornsife.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Harlan's memory may be offered to the Animal Rescue League, 58 Kennel Rd, Birdsboro, PA 19508.

Services for Harlan will be held on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 11 AM at the Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading PA 19611.
