Obituary for Harold D. Shirey

Harold D. Shirey of Pottstown, Pa. passed away Saturday, January 28, 2023 at his home in the presence of family and loved ones.

Harold was born in 1931 in Reading, Pa. to parents, Leroy C. and Ella M. (Heckrote) Shiery. He grew up there with eight brothers and sisters and attended Stevens Trade School.

After graduation, Harold entered into the U.S. Navy where he participated in the Korean War from 1951 through 1955. During his military career he served aboard the USS Dashiell, DD-659, homeported in Newport RI. While serving on the Dashiell, he participated in a world cruise, visiting several ports in Europe and Asia.

After his discharge in 1955, Harold went to work in the manufacturing industry until he began working for Pep Boys, an automotive supply chain. He started work there as a salesman in 1959. That same year he met and married Marcelline Anastacio. They moved to a small cape style home in Orefield, Pa. where they lived for eight years. At that time Harold received a promotion to Assistant Manager.

He and Marcelline then moved to Pottstown. Shortly after, Harold was promoted to Manager. Harold continued to work for Pep Boys until his retirement in 1993. Sadly, shortly after he retired Marcelline passed away.
After her death, Harold continued to live in Pottstown, becoming a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church. On a church trip to Israel in 2000, Harold met Indiana. After a brief courtship, they married in 2001, remaining together until his passing.

During his life, Harold enjoyed many things, including a love of watching professional golf, eating at buffets and vacations to Atlantic City and Nicaragua. His favorite thing by far was his love of gardening. He spent countless hours tending to his many flowers and plants.

Harold enjoyed a long and productive life and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
