Heather A. Warfel, 79, formerly of Wyomissing, passed away Saturday, February 12, 2022, in the care of Rome Memorial Hospital, Rome, NY. She was the loving wife of John M. Warfel.
Born in Watertown, NY, to the late Stanley R. and Alice B. (Amlaw-Benson) Goodman, Heather devoted herself to caring for others. She graduated from Nursing School before undergoing further study and specializing as a Nurse Anesthetist. She began her career at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Reading, later worked for the Susquehanna Health System, the Reading Hospital, and most recently, at Troy Community Hospital of Troy, PA, before retiring in 2008.
While living in Sullivan Co., Heather and John devoted themselves to a shared Catholic faith.
Heather found much joy in both cooking and gardening. She amassed a cookbook library of several hundred volumes. Her gardens on her mountain top home in Sullivan Co., Pennsylvania were quite extensive.
She was well respected in her professional career. Heather ended her career as the director of Anesthesia at Troy Hospital in northern PA. She jokingly said it was an easy assignment since she was the only employee in that department.
Friendships meant everything to Heather and she spoke to her closest friend Janet Hawke nearly every day for forty years.
While living in Forksville, PA Heather would perform at a local venue where she sang jazz while being accompanied by her husband on the keyboard. She lived there on her 45 acre mountain home surrounded by many friends who brought pure joy to her life.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Forksville United Methodist Church, Forksville, PA 18616, in gratitude for all the years of friendship the congregation gave Heather and John.
Left to treasure Heather’s memory is her husband, John; their children: Robert F. Dahl (Peggy); Alan M. Dahl (Martina); Dr. Gregory Cortellessa; James Cortellessa; William Cortellessa (Kathy); Brian Warfel (Margaret); Jana Y. Jang (Kiwon); and Jennifer Warfel-Turrell (Mark). She is also survived by nine grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Heather was predeceased by a daughter, Diane Benson.
