Obituary for Jack Frank Pordham Jr.

Jack F. Pordham Jr., 65, of Reading, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by loving family, on Sunday, May 9, 2021. He and his devoted wife, Dottie (Lamp), would have celebrated 40 years of marriage in June. Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Jack F. Pordham Sr. and Dora (Kline) Pordham.

Jack graduated from Reading High School in 1973 and attended Reading Muhlenberg Technical School, earning his Journeyman’s license in plumbing. He worked for a number of plumbers, including Donald Baddinger, Jack Kinsey, and Craig Becker, and he recently retired from Wilson School District.

A former baseball coach, Jack enjoyed the distinction of having coached former MLB pitcher Rich DeLucia.

Beginning in the 90’s at Bowl-A-Rama, and later at Hiester Lanes, Jack served his community as a dedicated volunteer bowling coach for Junior and Scholarship Leagues. Even his difficult battle with multiple health issues would not prevent him from being there for his “kids”. In 2011 he joined the coaching staff of Oley Valley High School’s bowling team and remained a volunteer coach until his passing.

In addition to his loving wife, Dottie, Jack is survived by numerous and much loved nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Raymond Lamp (Gloria), Ruth Cardell (widow of Donald Cardell), William Lamp Jr., Robert Lamp (Sharon), and Wayne Lamp (Kim). He was predeceased by his sisters, Joan Cole, Patty Kramer, and Kathy Pordham.

Jack will also be remembered by the hundreds of lives he has touched as a coach in our area.

Services for Jack will be held privately at the convenience of his family.
