Obituary for James G. Maurer
James G. (Jim) Maurer, 80, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 12, 2023 in his Wyomissing residence after a courageous battle with colon cancer. He was the loving husband of Janet C. (Cassarella) Maurer for 49 years.
Born in Harrisburg, he was the son of the late John G. and Helene (Meikrantz) Maurer. Jim worked for UGI Utilities for 41 years, retiring in 2006. He took pride in coaching his daughters in youth soccer teams for the Wilson Junior Soccer Club and CYO Basketball at St. Ignatius Loyola. He loved listening to doo wop music and was an avid fan of the Phillies and Eagles. He enjoyed talking baseball with his best friend, the late Tony Maniaci.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Janet; daughters Kristen (Pep) McKnight and Lesley Maurer (John Post); grandchildren: Anthony, Chaz and Brooklynn McKnight; brother, Jack (Helen) Maurer; and his beloved pets, Jackson and Pia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 20, 2023 at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 2700 Saint Albans Dr, Reading, PA 19609. The family will receive friends and relatives from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Private burial will follow at a later date at Calvary Cemetery in Drums, PA.
Jim had the biggest heart for all animals, so in lieu of flowers, the family asks that you kindly consider a contribution in his name to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County (berksarl.org) or the Humane Society of Berks (humanepa.org)
