Obituary for James S. Melcher Sr.
James S. Melcher Sr., 76, of Spring Township, passed away January 7, 2021, at the Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Nancy L. (Rohm) Melcher, whom he married on September 2, 1967. Born in West Reading, James was the son of Stewart and Rita (Breen) Melcher.
He was a 1962 graduate of Central Catholic High School.
James honorably served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Afterwards, he worked as a lineman and installer at Bell Telephone/ Verizon for 30 years until he retired. He then worked at Berks Western Telecom for 7 years.
In his free time, James enjoyed watching baseball, especially the Philadelphia Phillies. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge and enjoyed the Malamente Social Club. It brought him great joy watching his grandchildren participate in various activities through the Catholic Youth Organization, Youth Ice Hockey programs as well as Wilson Sports, Theater and Media. Above all, he especially enjoyed travelling with his wife, Nancy.
In addition to his wife, James is survived by his three children: James S. Melcher Jr., husband of Karen, Denville, NJ; Victoria T. Dugan, wife of Michael, West Lawn, PA; and Kimberly J. Carlance, wife of Christopher, West Lawn, PA. Additionally, he is survived by his grandchildren: Caily Dugan, Damien Carlance, Caleb Carlance, and Payton Dugan. Five siblings: Patricia Cammarano, wife of the late Dominic, Blandon, PA; R. Kathryn Campbell, wife of Hale, Bradenton, FL; Mary Sianis, wife of Harry, Thornton, CO; Michelle Moulds, wife of Michael, Vienna, MD; and Christopher Melcher, husband of Denise, Augusta, SC.
He was predeceased by two siblings: J. Barry Melcher and Robert Melcher.
