Obituary for James O. Seelig
James O. Seelig – avid golfer, loving husband, and devoted grandfather – died on Jan. 5 after losing his battle against COVID.
The longtime Reading-area resident was 76.
Born in Landsdale, PA, Seelig graduated from Wilson Highschool in 1962. Over the years he served in the Army Reserves, worked at the Washington Insurance Company, at Shaw Barton as a salesman, and most recently as a driver with Berman Freightliner in Leesport.
Seelig spent nearly every weekend and many weekdays playing golf at Reading’s Manor Golf Course – where he hit two of his three lifetime holes-in-one.
He was particularly proud of his seven grandchildren, faithfully attending the football games of his grandson and the dance recitals of his granddaughters.
Seelig will be remembered for his sharp wit and quick jokes that regularly elicited groans from friends and family, but always brought joy to their hearts.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Virginia (King) Seelig; two children, Pamela Stebbins of Williamsport and Adam Seelig of Lancaster; two stepchildren, Todd Moody of West Lawn and Eric Moody of Sinking Spring; one brother, Warren Seelig of Rockport, ME; three grandchildren, Hope Stebbins, Lydia MacClaren, and Ross Stebbins; four step-grandchildren, Sydney, Delaney, Oriah and Kyler Moody; and one great-granddaughter, Willow MacClaren.
Seelig was predeceased by his brother, David Seelig.
Due to the COVID pandemic, services will be held later this spring at the Manor Golf Course. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lehigh Valley Chapter of First Tee, a youth development organization that uses the game of golf to create learning experiences that build inner strength, self-confidence, and resilience in kids.
