Obituary for Janet V. DeLong

Janet V. (Goodhart) DeLong, 93, formerly of Spring Township, passed away August 14, 2020, in Sacred Heart Villa Retirement Community.

Her husband, Franklin A. DeLong died on December 26, 2005.

Born in Lebanon, she was a daughter of the late Clifford and Beatrice (Parker) Goodhart.

Janet and her husband Frank were known in Pennsylvania and beyond for raising, breeding and showing Collies. Many of their beautiful dogs were trained for show and her home was filled with trophies representing the love and training Janet gave each dog they raised over the many years of raising and showing.

It was easy for Janet to make friends. She was a people person always ready to lend a hand for friends in need. Janet loved to share her pets with the elderly in assisted living homes and with children alike. Her sense of humor was sure to light up a gathering or a frequent personal visit in her home.

She could be found in her garden with her vegetables weeding or trimming bushes around her yard. Her homemade vegetable soup gave her joy in the making and in sharing with friends. In her earlier years Janet was a proficient seamstress. Sewing drapes and clothing for herself and others.

She is survived by two siblings, William F. Goodhart, West Wyomissing and Ann Louise, wife of William Weyandt, SC., and their children: Beth Ann, wife of Douglas Dry, and their children: Brendan, Gregory and Kara; Craig, husband of Alessandra Weyandt, and their daughter, Alyssia; Scott, husband of Leah Weyandt, and their children: August and Julius; Brian, husband of Sara Weyandt, and their children: Noah and Fynley.
