Obituary for Janet Weidner Kaiser

Janet Weidner Kaiser died peacefully at the age of 86 on April 27, 2021, at home and surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Kenneth J. Kaiser. Janet was born on May 13, 1934 in Reading, PA. She is the daughter of the late Charles H. Weidner, Esq. and Marguerite (Shoemaker) Weidner, both of Reading, PA. Janet graduated from Reading High School in 1952, where she was Head Majorette for the Reading High School Marching Band and was the first woman to twirl fire in Berks County. She was a 1957 graduate of The Ohio State University, where she received her BA in Psychology.

Janet worked as a kindergarten teacher in the Reading School District. She was the owner of Janet Kaiser Antiques for close to 40 years, specializing in fine vintage linens and operating Booth #101 at the Black Angus Antiques Mall. For over 65 years, she was Kenneth’s devoted wife, raising their children and supporting him throughout his career. Janet was a long-time member of, and held leadership positions in, the Junior League of Reading, where she spearheaded numerous philanthropic and charitable efforts, including fundraising for the Animal Rescue League of Berks County. She enjoyed playing bridge and pinochle, volunteer work (especially training and handling her therapy dog, Trappe), feeding the birds and deer, collecting, decorating, and sharing laughter with her friends and family. Janet adored all animals, in particular the 13 dogs and two cats with whom she was honored to share her life.

Surviving her are her husband, Kenneth J. Kaiser; four children, Marguerite Kaiser Rauenzahn (Wayne R. Rauenzahn), Jennifer Kaiser Zserai (Paul S. Zserai), Charles Weidner Kaiser (Stephanie Walters), and Rebecca Lynn Kaiser; nine grandchildren, Rachael Lynn Fraytic, Tina Marie Kaiser, Joseph Asher Kaiser, Benjamin Todd Moser, Evan Wayne Rauenzahn, Mitchell Weidner Raunenzahn, Madeline Marie Rauenzahn, Emily Renee Kaiser, and Leah Alexis Kaiser; four great-grandchildren, Trinity Ava Fraytic, Olivia Marie Moser, Hayden James Fraytic, and Maddox Benjamin Moser; and her faithful canine companions, Breezy and Elliot. Janet was predeceased by her sister, June Weidner Holt.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at 12 p.m. at Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading, PA, 19611 with burial to follow at Laureldale Cemetery. Friends may call Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the funeral home.
