Obituary for Janis I. Longlott

Janis Irene Longlott, 87, of Wyomissing, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, in the care of the Manor at Market Square. She was the widow of Lawrence J. Longlott, who passed away on August 28, 2018, after 63 incredible years of marriage.

Born and raised in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Lewis Hart and Irene (Schmoyer) Bohn. She was extremely passionate in celebrating and remembering her German and Pennsylvania Dutch roots.

After graduating from Reading High School in 1951, a beloved Reading High cheerleader, Janis earned her nursing degree in 1954. A natural caregiver, Janis first was employed at Berks Visiting Nurses before taking a position at the Reading Hospital. She was last employed in the office of Dr. Imber until her retirement in 1974.

Her passion for family and history led to her involvement and membership of the Berks Co. Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She also held many roles and positions through the years at the Berks County Historical Society, and even worked side by side with her beloved daughter, the late Kimberly Longlott for many years. Janis was also a beloved member of the Reading Liederkranz and the Evergreen German clubs and shared timeless memories of music and laughter with her family and friends at both locations.

Janis' memory will be treasured by her granddaughter, Mallory Fredericks. Her laughter, smile, fierceness, and unconditional love will live on through her. Janis enjoyed her life to the absolute fullest. When we think of Janis, we think of friendship, traveling the world, musical theatre, card club, luncheons, laughter, and love. Her memory will also live on through her adopted cat Petey. Janis and Larry were avid animal lovers and always had cats, dogs, or both. Janis rescued many cats and dogs and gave them a forever home. In lieu of flowers we know she would prefer a donation made in her honor to the Animal Rescue League, 58 Kennel Rd, Birdsboro, PA 19508.

A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 at 1 PM at Atonement Lutheran Church, 5 Wyomissing Blvd, Wyomissing, PA 19610. Friends are invited to gather from 12:30 until the start of services. A maximum of 110 people are allowed to attend services. The Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc, is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences, tributes, and fond memories may be expressed at www.kuhnfuneralhomes.com.
