Obituary

Obituary for Jayne Ellen Cumiskey (Crumpley)

Jayne Ellen Cumiskey (AKA Gram)

Heaven gained one of our best when Jayne Ellen Cumiskey (Crumpley) passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 7, 2021, at the age of 84. A long-time resident of Wyomissing, PA, Jayne was born in 1936 in Kansas City, MO, to Ellen and Robert Crumpley. She was lovingly raised by her beloved stepmother, Alice Crumpley, and her father Robert, alongside her brother, Robert Crumpley, Jr.

Jayne attended Shawnee Mission North High School in Overland Park, KS, and Roosevelt High School in Des Moines, IA. She became a member of the Alpha Phi Women’s Fraternity at The University of Kansas, where she met the love of her life, John Patrick Cumiskey, Jr. They were married for 34 years until his death in 1990. Jayne later received her BS in Human Services at Springfield College in Wilmington, DE.

She is forever loved by her children Carole and Carl Pulaski of Tabernacle, NJ, Marcia and Lawrence Ferranto of Aston, MD, James and Molly Cumiskey of Wildwood, MO, and Mark and Heather Cumiskey of Ellicott City, MD, and her late son John Patrick Cumiskey III.

Her 17 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren were her biggest joy in life especially when her family spent long summer days in the Outer Banks, North Carolina, for one magical week every year. Each one of her grandchildren would tell you that he or she was her favorite—and each would be right. Gram’s true gift was making everyone feel special around her.

Jayne was also a beloved aunt to Sara and Henry Rhodes of Sarasota, FL, Robert Crumpley III of Kansas City, KS, and Bradford and Penelope Crumpley of Penn Valley, CA.

Jayne devoted much of her time to the Girl Scouts and served as the Great Valley (now Eastern Pennsylvania) Girl Scout Council President. She is the former South Mountain YMCA Outdoor Director and most recently served on the board of Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County.

Jayne was an avid bridge player and a renowned jacks competitor, frequently seen playing robust games on the floor with her grandchildren and taking the W. She played piano and was a voracious reader. She could sew and knit anything. Jayne loved to cook and share delicious recipes with friends and family. She also remained loyal to her Philadelphia Eagles to the end.

Jayne always showed up and she loved well. Those who knew her were better for it.

You’re welcome, Heaven.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County, 529 Reading Ave., Suite C, Reading, PA 19611, or to the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania, Inc. (www.gsep.org).

A celebration of life memorial Mass will be held at St. Ignatius Loyola Church in Sinking Spring, PA, at 11 AM on Saturday, March 13. Services will be live streamed though Jayne's page at kuhnfuneralhomes.com; online condolences may be expressed on the website.
