Obituary for Jeffrey Lee Loeper

Jeffrey Lee Loeper, 65, formerly of Reading, peacefully passed away on August 1, 2023 in his Ephrata residence. He was the husband of Lanette M. Glenn.

He was the son of the late Paul W. and LaRue (Bauscher) Loeper.

Jeff was a 1976 graduate of Muhlenberg High School.

Jeff was passionate about his time working at Penske. He dedicated 38 years to the company as an auto body mechanic. Some of his proudest moments involved various painting projects including Rodger Penske’s helicopter and Penske Racing’s Indy cars, where Jeff received a 1985 Indy 500 ring from Danny Sullivan’s win.

Jeff was a member of the Flying Dutchmen ski club and the Junior Stock Car Races on 13th Street in Reading. He also served as Chief Engineer at Temple Fire Company, where he proudly volunteered for 11 years.

Jeff enjoyed spending time at Cape May and traveling with his family. Growing up, he spent many summers at his family’s beach house in Avalon, NJ. He also loved working on automobiles, especially his 1948 Plymouth Coupe. At any given time, you would find Jeff tinkering in the garage or working on multiple projects.

Most would know Jeff for his sense of humor, big heart, and attention to detail. He valued spending time with old and new friends and especially his family. He will truly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Jeffrey C. Loeper, husband of Jennie (Harding) and LeeAnn M. Thompson, wife of Chris; two step-children, Stephanie M. Taylor and Derek M. Taylor, husband of Amanda (Knoll); and seven grandchildren: Weston, Miles, Ethan, Charlotte, Haley, Kellen, and Julian. He is also survived by his siblings: Eileen Luckenbill, widow of Barry, Gail Wenrich, wife of Tab, Kay Hartman, wife of Scott, Lori Jacobs, wife of Steve, and Todd Loeper, husband of Patty.

Jeff was predeceased by his parents, seven aunts and uncles, and three cousins.
