Obituary for Jennifer Ann Sarnes

Jennifer Ann Sarnes, 44, passed away unexpectedly on April 14, 2022, in her Wyomissing residence.

Born in West Reading, she was the daughter of Frank W. Sarnes, Jr. and Joanne C. (Mies) Sarnes, Sinking Spring.

She was a graduate of Wilson High School in 1995 and Kutztown University in 1999; she went on to earn her master's degree from Kutztown University. While at Wilson, Jen was the statistician for the Wilson Water Polo team. She was affectionally known as "The Stat Queen."

Jennifer was an active member of St. Ignatius Loyola Roman Catholic Church, Whitfield; she often sang with one of the choirs

Jennifer was a teacher at St. Ignatius Parochial School for six years and Wilson Southern Middle School for 17 years. Instrumental in making her schools a better place to learn and work, she was the president of the Wilson Education Association from 2019 to 2021.

As a 6th grade Reading Specialist at Wilson, Jen and her co-teachers started a Holocaust Reading Unit with children's books written by survivors. The students also researched actual children of the Holocaust and presented the information on their person in a Holocaust Hall of Memories one evening at the school. Many years, they also had actual survivors come to the school to speak to the students and answer their questions. The unit was popular with the students and Jen always felt it gave them a whole new perspective on life

Dedicated to her students and community, Jennifer organized and ran the youth choir and was the CYO high school girls basketball coach at St. Ignatius. Always social, Jennifer was the unofficial social coordinator for teachers at both Wilson Southern and St. Ignatius.. The life of the party, Jen always had a smile on her face and a very quick wit. She could keep you entertained for hours. Jen was also an avid game player and those that played with her knew most times she would be the victor.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brothers, Peter A. (Amy), Orwigsburg and Matthew W. (Evelyn), Collegeville. She adored her three nieces and two nephews: Katherine, Mollie, Porter, Jackson, and Madeline.
