Obituary for John "Jack" W. Chelius

John "Jack" W. Chelius, 93, formerly of Reading, passed away February 28, 2021, in Berkshire Center.

He was the husband of Loretta "Sue" Chelius who preceded his death in January of 2021.

Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Mark B. and Dorothy L. (Miller) Chelius.

Jack graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1946. He honorably served his country in the Korean War as a member of the U.S Navy. After his time serving his country, he became a master plumber and was the owner/operator of Chelius Plumbing and Heating for 60 years.

Jack was an exceptional three sport athlete at Central Catholic, playing basketball, baseball, and football. He was an avid Notre Dame and Philadelphia Phillies fan; you could always find Jack enjoying a ball game. His children and grandchildren put joy in his heart and a smile on his face. Throughout his life, Jack touched countless lives through his incredibly outgoing personality, which earned him countless friends. He would never forget a birthday.

In addition to his parents and his wife Sue he was also predeceased by his beloved daughter, Lori, and sisters: Dorothy Chelius, Louise Wertman, and Lucy LaRue.

He was the father of six children: John W. Chelius Jr., West Reading; Matt Chelius, husband of Jackie, Mechanicsburg; Mary Smith, wife of Dan Smith, Warminster; James Chelius, Reading; Lori Lewis (deceased), and her surviving spouse, James Lewis, Peach Tree City, GA and Mark Chelius, fiance of Eileen McKeone, West Lawn. There are thirteen grandchildren: Natalie Bennett, John Chelius III, Kyle Chelius, Kurt Chelius, Ben Chelius, Andrew Smith, Luke Smith, Sarah Tingle, Olivia Lewis, Erin Chelius, Daniel Chelius, Mark Chelius Jr and Ricky Lombardo; and five great-grandchildren: Christopher Stahl, Molly Sue Bennett, Jack Bennett, Cameron Chelius and Kendall Tingle. Jack is also survived by two siblings, Elizabeth O'Connell, Wyomissing; Mary Ellen Liptak, Greenville, SC.
