Obituary for Karen Stout

Karen Anne (Brauer) Stout, 67, of Shillington, Pennsylvania, passed away December 10th, 2022, peacefully in her sleep.

She was born on December 12, 1954 to the late Walt and Anna Brauer in Philadelphia, PA and raised in Haddonfield, NJ. In her childhood, she most enjoyed summers in Wildwood Crest, NJ, where she spent her time reading, surfing, fishing, and crabbing.

Karen attended York College after high school and later worked as a paralegal in the banking industry. During her youngest son’s military service, she volunteered as an administrator for the organization Navy For Mom’s and helped hundreds of other mothers and relatives of Navy sailors transition to and cope with Navy life.

She was married to John Maguire from 1976 to 1992, and they had two children, Sean and Ryan.
She was later married to David Stout Jr. from (1994 to 2005), and they had one child, David.

Just like her late mother, you could always find Karen in her kitchen. She was a fantastic cook who thrived when entertaining her close family for holidays. Karen enjoyed antiquing, seafood, crocheting, the outdoors, and loved crabbing in New Jersey where she grew up. She loved to read and learn new things and possessed an eclectic taste in music. Karen faced life with an incredible sense of humor. She had a joke or quip for everything and brought laughter and light into the lives of everyone she met. Karen loved her family more than anything and cherished being a mother, grandmother, and puppy mom.

Karen is survived by her three sons and their wives Sean and Diane (Williams) Maguire, Ryan and Alexandria (Racquel) Maguire, David Stout III & Ashlan Bergh, her grandson Connor Maguire, her longtime friends Liz Boyer and David Hartman, and her dog Lucky.

Her parents and brother Walt preceded her in death.

Her family will hold a private celebration of her life at a later time.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Animal Rescue League of Berks County.
